The fact that this is a head-to-head room and you can see the other team’s progress really pushed this room over the edge for us. The puzzle ideas were there, but the execution, in our opinions, could have been better. In addition, both teams had technology trouble with one puzzle, but eventually got it to work. Both of our teams were given a hint on the monitor to tell us what to do, however, we are unsure how we would have otherwise known. We did have one puzzle that we found no clue or reasoning for (both teams had this issue) and we still don’t quite understand. The puzzles in the room were interactive and most puzzles fit the theme of the room. ![]() With that being said, there were times we felt like we were more immersed in the idea of beating our teammates than actually being immersed in the story. We felt tense and excited throughout, with both teams just trying to beat one another. With that being said, again, the craftsmanship in what they made was very well done! The fact that this was a head-to-head challenge led to deeper immersion, and they have a clever way that you can see how the other team is doing-which adds even more excitement and pressure to the game. Unfortunately, there were several items with price tags still on the bottom, and a few buttons that did not make much sense to us given the theme. The parts that were built were very well crafted and the quality was great. Upon entering the room, we saw what we would expect to see in a saloon–from a poker table, to the bar, to barrels, it felt like a saloon. We picked teams out of a hat rather than just splitting two-and-two, and they were quite accommodating! Once we knew our teams, we were taken to the rooms and given the finally bit of information we needed for the room. Since it’s a head-to-head (you can also just play one room) we had to divide ourselves into two teams of two. We were greeted and told a bit about this new location and the game we were going to be playing first, and then shown a very well-made introduction video that matched the saloon theme well. In addition, there was ample seating and merchandise for sale. As we entered the building, we realized that there were decorations outside each door, so you know a bit about the theme before you even went inside. The building was easy to find, had plenty of parking, and the giant hedge “lock” helped us know the right place to go. The book is 356 pages long and has 40 solos in it. The coils are big enough that it is easy to change the pages quickly on the fly. It is coil bound so it is easy to open on a music stand and it stays open and flat when you are reading from it. The Bill Evans Omnibook is created with the same standard of excellence as the other Hal Leonard Omnibooks. Evans’ playing to spend the countless hours it must have took to transcribe all of these solos. Whoever this person is, they must be a dedicated fan of Mr. Maybe he wants to remain anonymous? Regardless of that, I just have to comment on how amazing this person’s ears must be to hear all these chords, voicings, inversions and rhythms. The person who transcribed all of these great Bill Evans’ solos does not seem to be mentioned in this Omnibook. The colors of his chord voicings, the melodic and lyrical performance, the rhythmic variances in his playing and the interplay and communication between the piano, bass and drums is exciting and rewarding to listen to. ![]() I also like playing his music when I have company over to the house as it just sets up the perfect ambiance and class to a dinner or social event. I love listening to his beautiful piano playing when I want to relax and just chill out. ![]() I have many piano recordings of Bill Evans in my CD library. His use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, “singing” melodic lines continue to influence jazz pianists today.” “William John Evans (Aug– September 15, 1980) was an American jazz pianist and composer who mostly played in trios. Here is a short bio of Bill Evans from Wikipedia: ![]() I can think of no better non-saxophone playing musician to check out than the incomparable Bill Evans on piano. These are all saxophone players of course, so in the interest of being more “well rounded”, I thought it would be a good idea to check out a non-saxophone Omnibook. Hal Leonard has already released many other great Omnibooks that I have already reviewed here including the Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker Volume 2, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane Omnibooks. Today, I am reviewing the Bill Evans Omnibook for piano that is published by Hal Leonard. *I posted all the recordings I could find on Youtube that go with this transcription book at the bottom of this review………Enjoy! 5/13/2024 0 Comments Luminous flux to lumensThis means that we can use Lumens and Watts together to determine the relationship between energy efficiency and brightness of any given bulb. As described above, Lumens measure the total light emitted by a bulb while Watts measure the amount of energy the bulb consumes. Fortunately, Lumens and Watts are pretty easy to distinguish, especially when it comes to light bulbs. Now that we have covered the basics of each term, it is time to see how these units of measurement actually compare to one another. ![]() It is even used to help rate the lowest available light needed to film with a video camera, allowing manufacturers to rate video cameras using Lux. However, it is very important for photometry. Like Candela, Lux is not as widely known as some other units of measurement related to light. We use Lux to measure the intensity of light when seen by the human eye, as it hits or passes through a surface. Lux is a unit of measurement within the International System of Units that measures the perceived power of light (luminous flux) per unit area. This unit of measurement also falls within the International System of Units and gets its name from the traditional wax candle, as one candle produces roughly one Candela of luminous intensity. In other words, we use units of Candela to measure the power or intensity of light produced by a single light source in a specific direction. Candela is the unit of luminous intensity. However, it is extremely important for the measurement of visible light. What Is Candela?įor the average consumer, Candela may seem like a completely foreign term. For example, a 50 Watt light bulb that has been turned on for one hour has used 50 Watt-hours of energy. In the realm of lighting, Watts refers to the amount of power used by a given light source over one hour (known as a Watt-hour). In layman's terms, the Watt is a unit that measures the power generated or consumed by something. What Are Watts?Ī Watt is a unit of measurement in the International System of Units that quantifies the rate of energy transfer. Since Lumens fall within the International System of Units (SI), they are often listed on light bulbs and similar products. Instead, it is specifically concerned with the degree of visible light produced by a single source over time. Unlike other forms of light measurement, Lumens are not related to the area the light covers or even the intensity of light. ![]() Lumens measure the total quantity of visible light emitted by a particular source per unit of time. So, let’s get started! What Are Lumens?Ī Lumen is a unit of measurement of the perceived power of light, known as the luminous flux. Additionally, we will see how specific measurements of one unit of measurement compare to another. In today’s guide, we will define these four terms and see how they compare to one another. The four most important terms to know when it comes to measuring light are Lumens, Watts, Candela, and Lux. Unfortunately, these terms can also get really confusing. However, when it comes to lighting and light measurements, there are various terms that can be extremely useful to know. If you’re like most people, you have forgotten a lot of the terms and measurements discussed in your high school science classes. ![]() However, Jarte may not have all the advanced features of Microsoft Word, such as macros and extensive templates. 5/13/2024 0 Comments Francie schwartz today![]() Ringo Starr and one-time Bond girl and Playboy model Barbara Bach - born Barbara Goldbach, a native of Jackson Heights, Queens - recently celebrated 32 years of matrimony. McCartney wasn’t the only Beatle to enjoy a storied and enduring marriage to a Jewish woman. ![]() Asher subsequently broke off the engagement McCartney and Schwartz soon split, and McCartney took up with Linda Eastman. The two wound up having an affair during the making of “The White Album,” and were allegedly discovered in bed together at McCartney’s place by Asher upon her surprise return home from a stay in India. Linda Eastman wasn’t the first Jewish woman who McCartney had dated That distinction goes to Francie Schwartz, who, as a 23-year-old screenwriter, flew to London from her native New York City on a whim in 1968 to see if she could interest McCartney - who at the time was engaged to be married to Jane Asher - in one of her scripts. Linda Eastman’s brother, John Eastman, later took over from Lee Eastman and remained McCartney’s manager for many years. The dispute over management of the Beatles (which pitted a Jewish lawyer against a Jewish accountant) became a major factor in the ultimate dissolution of the Fab Four. McCartney’s choice of his father-in-law as manager was famously opposed by fellow Beatle John Lennon, who favored the former Rolling Stones manager Allen Klein. Linda’s father, Lee Eastman, was an entertainment lawyer who represented McCartney after the Beatles’ long-term manager - coincidentally also an Epstein, named Brian (but no relation) - passed away. They made music together: first, on the album “Ram,” the cover of which pictures McCartney grasping two ram’s horns, and subsequently, in McCartney’s post-Beatles group, Wings. McCartney married Linda Eastman in 1969, and the two famously stayed together as one of rock music’s most stable, loving couples until Eastman’s death in 1998 due to complications from breast cancer. Reports from the time of the wedding suggested that McCartney was considering a Jewish conversion in deference to his newlywed, but that apparently hasn’t happened - yet. John’s Wood, near McCartney’s home and close to Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded most of their songs. Over the holiday, the bride and groom attended services at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St. Ronson got the McCartney gig after DJing his 2011 wedding to Nancy Shevell, which took place on the day after Yom Kippur. The nu - I mean, new - album, full of Beatlesque confections in a panoply of styles - is co-produced by Mark Ronson, one of the hottest producers in popular music for the last decade or so, and the scion of a prominent English-Jewish family (the name was originally Aaronson). ![]() Sir Paul McCartney recently released “New,” his first album of original rock songs since 2007’s “Memory Almost Full.” Given the 71-year-old McCartney’s love affair with all things Jewish for the past half-century - including collaborators, business associates, girlfriends and wives - the title could well be meant as a transliteration of the all-purpose Jewish word nu. 5/13/2024 0 Comments Robot hand grabber toy![]() A complicated issue occurs with some “Straight” intersections. When the color sensor detects a wall in front and the robot decides to turn right or turn around, it should back up first, in order to give itself enough space to turn without bumping into the wall. This worked out well.īut the color sensor has a very short range, of about 2 inches (5 cm), which leads to a few special considerations as described below: Two or more Bricks could be daisy-chained, but I didn’t want to buy another Brick, and so I used the following sensors (instead of three ultrasonic sensors): infrared sensor, color sensor, and ultrasonic sensor. When the robot senses an intersection on the right but it’s not a right turn, I have found that it’s good to have the robot drive forward about 10 inches (25 cm) without checking its sensors.ĬONSIDERATIONS SPECIFIC TO LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3Īlthough LEGO Mindstorms EV3 is very versatile, it allows no more than one of each type of sensor connected to one Brick. The reason for the first short distance is that the robot shouldn’t bump into the wall after the turn, and the reason for the second short distance is that after the robot has turned, the sensor would see the long space it had just come from, and the robot would think it should turn again, which is not the proper thing to do. When the robot decides to turn it should either make a wide turn, or go forward a short distance before turning and after turning go forward a short distance again without checking the sensor. Step 2: Considerations When Programming the Robot After the right turn the list contains Right, Straight, Right which is the direct path.It passes a space and adds Straight to the list. After the next left turn the list contains Straight, Back, Left.It recognizes a combination and changes Right, Back, Left to Back. After the left turn the list contains Straight, Right, Back, Left. The list now contains: Straight, Right, Back. With a dead end, it turns around and adds Back to the list.It recognizes a combination and changes Left, Back, Straight to Right. The list now contains: Straight, Left, Back, Straight. Passing the lane it used from the entrance, it adds Straight to the list. The list now contains: Straight, Left, Back. Then it turns left and adds Left to the list. When the robot starts driving it sees a space to the right and stores Straight in the list in the array."Straight, Back, Straight" becomes "Back."."Straight, Back, Left" becomes "Right."."Left, Back, Straight" becomes "Right.". ![]() The possible turns are: Left, Right, Back (at a dead-end), and Straight (which is an intersection). ![]() The final list of turns and intersections is the direct path thru the maze. It accomplishes this by storing each turn and intersection in an array, checking for specific combinations of turns and intersections as it goes, and replacing the combinations that include a dead-end. While driving thru the maze the robot must memorize the path it is travelling and eliminate dead-ends. I didn’t include this refinement in my project. A possible solution for this problem would be for the robot to switch to the right-hand wall-follower rule if it realized that it was going in a loop. Depending on the placement of the loop, the robot could keep going around and around the loop. One caution is that the method could fail if the maze has a loop in it. If none of the above are possible, this must be a dead end.If it can’t go left or straight, turn right, if possible. The idea is that the robot will keep a wall on its left side by making the following decisions as it goes thru the maze: I chose the left-hand wall-following method.
